Building Jobby: A Premium Resume Editor

Jobby started as a simple experiment to solve a recurring issue: creating resumes that are both visually appealing and highly parsed by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

The Core Philosophy

I noticed that many job seekers struggle with a tricky dilemma: write a plain text resume that bots can easily read but looks a bit dull to humans, or design a complex, creative layout in Canva or Figma that looks amazing but might confuse ATS parsing algorithms.

With Jobby, I wanted to build a simple, friendly helper! It uses a clean Markdown format that translates beautifully into two outputs at the same time:

  1. A highly readable, semantic layout that parsers love.
  2. A clean, elegant design that humans can read easily.

The Stack I Used

Building Jobby was such a fun learning journey! Here is the simple setup I went with:

  • Frontend: Lightweight HTML bricks, styled with custom CSS variables.
  • Backend: Gotenberg for PDF generation, which I set up using Docker.
  • Data Privacy: An offline-first design that keeps everything safely stored in your browser's local storage. Your personal information never leaves your device!

I'm incredibly excited about how fast and secure Jobby is, and I hope it can help make the job application process just a little bit easier and less stressful for anyone looking for their next adventure!
